LCCC a Great Community Partner

posted 3/11/20 -- Lorain County Community Action Agency supports Lorain County Community College’s Issue 17 which will be before voters tomorrow.

LCCAA values LCCC as a partner, said President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein.

“The college is so important to our community,” Boehnlein said. “At any gathering in Lorain County, if the audience is asked by a show of hands if LCCC was part of their educational and professional achievements, hand after hand shoots up into the air. The college has such a tremendous reach.”

That reach includes LCCAA employees. The agency has more than 30 Head Start staff members that hold degrees from LCCC. LCCAA participates in college job fairs specifically to recruit LCCC graduates.

“We love hiring LCCC graduates,” said Carla Rodriguez, LCCAA Director of Human Resources. “Partnering with the college gets us highly-credentialed staff who know and love our community”.

LCCC and LCCAA also collaborate with programming and services. LCCC hosts a satellite office for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) at the North Ridgeville campus. The success of this arrangement has opened discussions about similar opportunities in other locations.

Issue 17 asks voters to renew the existing 1.8-mill operating levy and add 0.5 mills for a ten-year term (not permanent). This equates to an additional investment of $1.46 per month per $100,000 in property value. According to LCCC, for every $1 tax payers spend on the college, the community realizes an economic benefit of $14.
