Head Start Wild About Nutrition Events Coming Up

posted 3/2/18 -- As a comprehensive child development program, Head Start works on more than just letters and numbers. Nutrition is a key component.

From fully scratch made lunches to community events, Head Start’s Health and Nutrition staff works hard to expose students to good eating habits and new foods. LCCAA’s second annual Wild About Health and Nutrition events are set for March 20 and 22.

Try Day Fridays have been a hit this year with students and parents trying a new food prepared by the staff after learning about the food in its raw form. So far, students have tried butternut squash, red cabbage, grapefruit and spinach through this grant-funded program.

Spinach try day coincided with Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, March 2, so the spinach became part of the centers’ “green eggs and ham” experiences.

Wild About Health and Nutrition will be held at LCCAA Head Start @ Hopkins-Locke in Lorain on Tuesday, March 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A similar event is set for LCCAA Head Start @ Elyria on Griswold Road on Thursday, March 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

There will be plenty of stations available for fun, learning and engagement. Meals are provided along with family door prizes and free books. Community partners are invited to share information and promotional items as well.
