LCCAA Recognized by Elyria NAACP

posted 10/13/19 -- Lorain County Community Action Agency was honored by the Elyria Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) at the unit’s 64th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet.

“LCCAA was selected to receive the 2019 Community Empowerment Award because of its longstanding commitment to community and all of the programs/services that have been provided in Lorain County as Game Changers,” said LaTaunya Conley, Secretary of the Unit.

“We chose to identify individuals or organizations that embodied the six NAACP Game Changers addressing the major areas of inequality facing African Americans that are the focus of the NAACP's work,” she added.

The Game Changers, found in the NAACP’s Strategic Plan are: economic stability, education, health, public safety and criminal justice, voting rights and political representation, and expanding youth and young adult engagement.

“Changing the game for those living in poverty or coping with disparities continues to be at the heart of LCCAA’s mission to serve and empower our residents,” said Jackie Boehnlein, LCCAA President and CEO. “We’re pleased to be recognized by such a strong, like-minded organization.”

The banquet also recognized six scholarship winners who are changing their games with NAACP awards. Other community partners were also recognized. LCCAA’s award was accepted by Youth Services Coordinator Bobby Taylor.
