By Car Makes 'Life a Little Easier'

posted 3/2/23 -- April Mitchell drove herself to work the first time she drove her 2014 Audi Q5 after completing the By Car program.

Mitchell had been relying on friends and family members for rides to her job at Octapharma Plasma Centers and to her classes at Lorain County Community College. She is working toward a degree in human services and applied science and is grateful for the program.

“I just want people to know that my experience was amazingly and surprisingly enjoyable and the help you get through the process is priceless,” she said. “Thank you for making life just a little easier for me and my family.”

By Car matches earned income at a rate of $3 to $1 to help participants purchase a reliable used car for work or school. The program partners with OhioMeansJobs Lorain County. Participants have access to a number of assessments and tools available through OMJ. The program also includes one year of car insurance up to $2,500.

“There is real help here in Lorain County for people who are trying to live a better and successful life,” Mitchell added.
