Big Changes Coming to Medicaid

posted 2/15/23 -- As pandemic-related supports continue to be rolled back by the federal government, LCCAA encourages Medicaid recipients to be aware of upcoming changes and required actions to maintain coverage.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, Medicaid has been required to maintain continuous coverage for anyone on its rolls. The Consolidated Appropriations Act passed at the end of 2022, set March 31, 2023, as the date to end that rule. This means that as of April 1, 2023, the Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services is required to re-verify everyone’s eligibility to continue coverage.

Here are some points to know:

  • Keep a watchful eye and ear for any communication from Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services. Emails, calls and letters are already going out advising Medicaid recipients of the pending changes.
  • More specifically, check your mail. Watch your mail for letters and read everything from Medicaid. Make sure to respond to all requests for information from either the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services or the Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services promptly.
  • If you don’t already have one, create an account at the Ohio Benefits Self-Service Portal at https://ssp.benefits.ohio.gov. This will allow you to track and check the status of your benefits without having to wait to speak with a JFS staff person.
  • Make sure your contact information is up to date. Call 1-800-324-8680 or visit the Ohio Benefits Self-Service Portal.

Medicaid members who have been notified they are no longer eligible may be able to buy low-cost healthcare coverage through the federally facilitated marketplace at healthcare.gov.
