Youth Help Parks Attract Pollinators

posted 12/19/22 -- Workers in LCCAA’s Youth Services program worked to help city parks attract pollinators in a new partnership.

LCCAA sponsored two pollinator gardens in city parks earlier this year. The gardens will contain sunflowers which will reduce the amount of maintenance needed at the parks as well as attracting butterflies as they migrate from Canada to Florida.

Kristin Ortiz-Santiago and Mea Nieter scattered seed and spread straw at Danley Square (E Street and Augusta) and Highview Park (1815 Crehore St.).

Pollinator gardens support and maintain insects that pollinate by supplying food to ensure the important animals stay in the area to keep pollinating crops for continued fruit and vegetable production.

Rotary Club of Lorain and the City of Lorain are also partners in the effort.
