STORM DAMAGE CLOSES HEAP OFFICE AT 404 BROADWAY, LORAINposted 10/31/12 -- Severe wind damage to the roof and unrelenting rain has resulted in the immediate closure of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) office located at 404 Broadway in Downtown Lorain. The Agency is in the process of relocating the office and has gained approval for continuing utility assistance services in the interim.
“We were greeted by wet, fallen ceiling tiles and drenched equipment and flooring,” states Jackie Boehnlein, President & CEO. “There was never any question we were going to have to relocate to continue operations.”
Of major concern is that the Winter Crisis Program for HEAP starts tomorrow. The Agency and the Ohio Development Services Agency (ODSA) have remained in communication. The program requires phone service, internet connectivity and computer workstations to fully function. Securing these are the main priorities at this time.
“Understandably, clients are looking for information and guidance. As soon as plans are finalized, details will be released. The timing is probably as bad as it can be, but we are working with ODSA with the urgency that the circumstances demand,” assures Boehnlein.
The Agency is going to manual paper applications in order to prevent utility service disconnections for clients. At this time, the schedule of services is as follows:
Thursday, November 1
No services, including phone calls, will be offered in Lorain. The Wellington satellite will be open for appointments and walk-ins. Please note, only two workers will be at the Wellington office and they will not be accepting general phone calls.
Friday, November 2; Monday, November 5; Tuesday, November 6
Temporary offices will be open at 502 Broadway (corner of Fifth and Broadway) to take manual applications in Lorain. The main phone number for the program (see below) will be back in service. The Wellington satellite will be open for appointments and walk-ins. Please note, only two workers will be at the Wellington office and they will not be accepting general phone calls.
The Agency anticipates opening a new office on Broadway in Lorain on Wednesday, November 7. Further details are to follow.
