LCCAA gratefully remembers Jon Veard, Sr., who died March 14 after a brief illness.
Veard’s United Property Management has been a long-time partner of LCCAA as he worked to restore and refurbish multiple buildings in downtown Lorain.
“We’re really going to miss him,” said LCCAA CEO Shauna Matelski. “He was a giant in the community. We have appreciated his passion for building things up in the city.”
LCCAA benefited from several of Veard’s projects as the self-made man worked seven days a week along side his son, Jon Jr.
In 2017, Veard worked with LCCAA to move its administrative offices into the former Molas Furniture building at 936 Broadway Ave. In 2019, a former warehouse and commercial laundry on West 10th Street was refurbished into the Ronald Nabakoski Youth Center to house the LCCAA Bike Shop. In 2023, the Bike Shop was converted to the LCCAA Produce Center.
In 2022, LCCAA Head Start management staff moved into the former Chase Bank building at 1949 Broadway Ave. after an extensive project by Veard’s company. Some original features on that site date to 1895.
Earlier this year, the conversion of Campana’s Pizza on West 8th Street was completed for Head Start’s central kitchen.
A celebration of life for Veard is planned at the Antler’s Grand Ballroom on May 10. View his complete obituary by clicking here.
