By Car Client Makes Dean's List

posted 5/23/23 -- LCCAA’s By Car program drove Ashley Kinter-Mauricio onto the dean’s list at Ohio Business College.

Ashley purchased a 2010 Buick Enclave from ByRight Auto Sales after having her savings matched 3 to 1 by the program. She couldn’t wait to show it off.

“The first place I drove my new car was straight to both of my children’s schools to surprise them,” she said. “They were very excited to get in and inspect it. We also took our dog for a car ride, because she definitely missed them.”

Ashley, who learned about By Car through Head Start, credits the program with encouraging her to pursue her associate’s degree in business.

“Hearing about the program was actually the best thing that could have happened to me because of the requirements,” she said. “I have been wanting to go back to school for a long time but just kept putting it off. The requirements of this program gave me the push I needed to go back.”

In addition to income qualifications, By Car program participants must be working or enrolled in school. Ashley is finishing her first year and has made the Dean’s List every semester so far.

Ashley’s previous car needed expensive repairs. After spending $1,400 on the transmission, the engine failed, leaving her without transportation.

In partnership with OhioMeansJobs, LCCAA’s program also provides up to $2,500 for a year’s worth of car insurance.
