Former Board Member O'Keefe Dies

posted 1/17/23 -- LCCAA extends condolences to the family of Barbara O’Keefe, former mayor of Wellington and former member of our Board of Directors.

O’Keefe passed away on Jan. 12 at the age of 83. Among her achievements, she was the first female mayor of Wellington, a position she held for 22 years. She served on the LCCAA Board from 2007 to 2015.

When O’Keefe applied to join the LCCAA Board, she sought to improve representation from the southern part of the county. She described herself as honest, fair and community minded.

“She definitely was all three of those things,” said CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “She brought a fresh perspective on rural issues and always did her best to bring services to her community.”

O’Keefe also served as a long time manager of the Village Market in Wellington. She was laid to rest after a Mass at her church, St. Patrick Catholic Parish, on Jan. 15.
