Calloway Joins LCCAA Board

posted 3/25/23 -- LCCAA’s newest Board of Directors member is an Elyria native, veteran and pastor.

Bobby Calloway joined the board in January and has found the work “quite intriguing” so far.

“I’m realizing how intricate and involved they are in the community,” Calloway said. “I really wanted to be part of the solution for the underprivileged in the neighborhood.”

Calloway was appointed by the Elyria NAACP after long-time board member Rev. Calvin Currie left the board due to term limits.

“He was quite influential in my decision,” Calloway said, adding that he began looking for more ways to support his community after his grandson’s 2017 murder.

Calloway grew up in Elyria and joined the U.S. Army after graduating high school. After seven and a half years, Calloway had learned medical supply work and also became an EMT. He returned home after leaving the army and began working in ministry with his uncle several years ago. He is now the pastor of Woodford Avenue Ministry of Reconciliation Church of God in Christ.

Calloway joins the low-income sector of the LCCAA Board. By federal law, the board is made up of three sectors: public (usually elected officials or their designees), private (usually business leaders) and low-income (people living in poverty or those who serve them.)
