Tech Connect Expands Options

posted 6/15/19 -- Dennis Calhoun was well-positioned to hear about Lorain County Community Action Agency’s Tech Connect program.

As an employee of Ohio Means Jobs – Lorain County, Dennis learned about the most recent class held there. As a member of the Vantage Aging program, Dennis has been working part time as a custodian at the OMJ facility for just over a year, he said.

“It’s the computer age,” he said. “You’ve got to have good knowledge.”

Now that his participation in Vantage’s Senior Community Service Employment Program is nearing its end, the new skills give Dennis more options.

Tech Connect is a free, 8-session class that teaches participants the basics of Microsoft Office as well as how to search and apply for jobs online. If needed, students start at the very beginning with keyboard and mouse skills.

Upon completion of the course, participants who qualify receive a free, refurbished computer. For more information on Tech Connect, click here.

The next class will be scheduled soon. To learn more about the program that helped Dennis find his job at OMJ, visit www.vantageaging.org.
