Senior Service Day Gives to Lorain County

posted 2/23/19 -- Lorain High School students spent last Wednesday serving their community at points all over Lorain County.

Organized by LCCAA Youth Coordinator Bobby Taylor and Lorain High School Student Program Specialist Matt Kielian, the Second Annual Senior Service Day included sites as various as Head Start classrooms and a horse rescue.

“We sent our senior class to help feed the hungry, assist the underserved, entertain the elderly and support charitable agencies who could benefit from our brains, brawn and hearts,” Taylor said.

Students, chaperones and sponsors all agreed the day showed both community needs and community solutions. Using their gifts and talents was unique way to demonstrate their Titan Pride.

The event was again sponsored by Buckeye Health Plan whose community relations representative Mike Hibbard said truly amazing things are happening in Lorain County. He would love to see the ideas spread to other parts of the state, he said.

Students also received some incentives for participation, according to Elisha Neely, LHS Social Worker. They were entered into raffles for senior year expenses such as cap and gown rental, prom tickets and more.

“Our students worked hard and had a great time giving back to their community,” Neely said. “We hope our students at Lorain High can inspire other districts to also have a day of service!”
