Tech Connect Grads Ready for Next Steps

posted 10/7/18 -- LCCAA’s latest class of Tech Connect graduates gained confidence and skills for a brighter future. And they had fun along the way.

“Who would have thought it would be this simple?” said Mary, who hadn’t worked with computers in 15 years.

The class, finished Sept. 26, was held at Elyria High School in collaboration with WE3 (Women Empowered, Educated and Employed). Tech Connect provides instruction in basic computer usages, Microsoft Office products and using email and Internet for job searches. Upon completion, participants earn a free, refurbished computer.

Crystal plans to use her new skills and computer to assist – and keep up with – her kids who are currently enrolled in Head Start. She said she is thrilled to have a computer in her home as her kids get older because they will all be able to learn and grow together.

Ollie was happy to receive her certificate to take to an upcoming interview. Brittany was grateful to update her skills as she heads back to school to work toward a business degree. Keith, a retired nurse, wanted a refresher and enjoys learning.

“Most jobs nowadays, it’s important to know how to use computers,” added Mary, who was displaced from Walmart after 16 years and also wants to go back to school. “I’m incredibly grateful for this. I look at my displacement at Walmart as a blessing and without it, I would never have opened my eyes to the other possibilities.”

LCCAA will hold its next Tech Connect Class at Ohio Means Jobs Lorain County beginning November 5. To learn more and enroll, contact Bob McDonald at 440-204-3151 or [email protected].
