Dads Welcomed into Head Start Classrooms

posted 5/20/18 -- Actor James Avery (Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) once said “Monetary success is not success. Life, someone that loves you, giving to others, doing something that makes you feel complete and full. That is success. And that isn’t dependent on anyone else.”

That philosophy was put in to action at LCCAA Head Start centers throughout Lorain County at “Dads and Dogs” day in April.

“We had fun with Dads and dogs of all types,” said LCCAA Head Start @ Elyria teacher Jenn Ketcham.

Dads read stories and all listened to actress Betty White reading “Harry the Dirty Dog.”

“We danced to the song ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ and even created and named our own dogs. I’m not sure who got into the creations more, the kids or the dads!” Ms. Ketcham added.

The impact a male can have on a child’s life is immeasurable. And to make such a large difference in a child’s life sometimes all you have to do is show up. Ms. Ketcham wanted to make sure she said “thank you to the nine male figures who made a huge impact for our students today by getting out and showing up.”
