Tech Connect Grads Use Skills Immediately

posted 4/24/18 -- Lorain County Community Action Agency’s (LCCAA) Tech Connect Class has taken an old Chinese proverb about fishing and given gives it a modern spin: “Give a person a computer and you help them in the short term. Teach a person how to use a computer and you give them skills for a lifetime.”

The most recent group of students applied their new skills immediately. Graduate Becky Kay Dickson emailed LCCAA to say: “I run a block watch for South Lorain and was able to put together my first presentation for the group. I was doing everything in long form. And now I know how to make a presentation and to do spread sheets, PowerPoint and Excel.”

A lot of the students credited teacher Arun Singh for making them more prepared for the technology driven world we live in today.

“I was lucky to have the best teacher,” said graduate Silvia Macovetchi. “Wherever I go in my life, I will always remember that I had an excellent guide, I’m thankful for this opportunity to be part of this awesome program.”

Joan Epling was a “self-taught” computer user. She is a baby boomer who enjoyed using her computer to keep in contact with friends and family. She signed up for the Tech Connect class because she saw a friend post something on Facebook about a previous class and figured “why not give it a try? And I enjoyed the computer class and learned something new every day. I learned the correct way to do things, which saves me a lot of time.”

Do you want to learn more about computers but are easily overwhelmed by technology? Or maybe you ask younger family members to help you but they move too fast?
