BYCar Helps Hard Workers

posted 7/6/21 -- Lorain native Brian Whiteside doesn’t have to ask friends for rides anymore now that he has completed LCCAA’s BYCar program.

Whiteside was one of two county residents who recently completed the program which matches savings from earned income.

Whiteside, a construction and concrete worker, saved his earned income and had it matched by the program allowing him to purchase a Jeep Cherokee. Now, he is able to drive himself to jobs all over Lorain County.

Another local woman is using her new car to get to classes in medical assisting.

BYCar will match savings at a ratio of 3 to 1 up to $3,999. Participants also attend a financial literacy class. To be eligible, no one in the household can own a vehicle and participants must be living at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Line ($53,000 for a family of four).
