Single Mom Saves for Car with Program

posted 5/21/19 -- Brittany Parsons is thrilled to have her independence back now that she is the proud owner of a used car.

Parsons purchased her car after completing LCCAA's By Car program in partnership with WE3 (Women Empowered, Educated and Employed). By Car matches savings at a 2 to 1 ratio for qualifying participants.

Parsons, 32, lives in Lorain with her three children. As a single mom, she looks forward to driving to work and school on her own.

To participate in the By Car program, Lorain County residents must not have a car, live at or below 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Line. Eligible clients save their earned income toward a vehicle purchase.

The By Car program matches their savings 2 to 1 up to a total of $3,999. Participants take financial literacy coursesas well as learning the costs of owning a vehicle and its proper maintenance.
