Bridging from Head Start to Kindergarten

posted 5/11/22 -- Bridging celebrations will be planned at each site during the last week of school to celebrate every family’s accomplishments this school year.

Due to COVID restrictions, we will not have assemblies. Additional information for each site will be shared on ClassTag or sent home.

Bridging dates at our collaborative centers are May 20, May 25 and May 26. Firelands Head Start students bridge June 1. All other LCCAA Head Start students bridge June 9.

By now you have probably begun the registration process for your kindergarten-eligible child. If not, this is something you want to start soon. Your timeliness ensures that all screenings will be completed and that your child will have a smooth start to the next school year.

Before you register, be sure to verify your child’s eligibility because age cut-offs vary by district. For instance, Lorain City Schools requires students to be 5 by August 1, 2022, but Elyria City Schools has the requirement of age 5 on or before September 30.

Most schools will offer online registration, while some offer a mix of in-office and online. Regardless of how it is done, you can expect to need the following documents:

 

• Parent Photo I.D. (driver’s license or state ID)
• Child’s Birth Certificate
• Immunization Records
• Custody Papers, if applicable
• 2 Proofs of Residency (lease agreement, mortgage documents, recent utility bills, etc.)
• Emergency Contact List (Usually two individuals listed)
