Head Start Loans Tablets to Families

posted 5/19/21 -- Many LCCAA Head Start families found themselves at a technological disadvantage when the COVID-19 crisis made remote learning necessary.

LCCAA Head Start purchased 50 tablets with built in hot spots to loan to families who did not have technology or connectivity available to participate in virtual learning. The hot spots connect to the Verizon network.

The 32-gigabyte Samsung Tab A units included an 8.4-inch screen and were equipped with a durable case that can stand up to preschoolers, said Data Integration Specialist Tosha Craighead.

The tablets were pre-loaded with parental controls, Zoom, ClassTag, Ready Rosie, Fun Brain and other educational software.

Craighead began distributing the tablets in March and said they will be ready to roll out in the fall again if necessary. Parents were grateful for the opportunity to have their children participate in learning activities and to join in virtual meetings.
