Two Head Start Centers Switching to All Virtual

posted 11/12/20 -- LCCAA has been monitoring the status of Lorain County concerning COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution for children and staff, the Agency is switching to virtual services at two of its Head Start centers.

Beginning Monday, November 16, Head Start centers at Hopkins-Locke in Lorain and Griswold Road in Elyria will go to all virtual services.

Hopkins-Locke and Griswold are the only two centers affected by this decision. In person classes will continue at LCCAA Head Start Cascade, Firelands, LaGrange and Wellington. In person classes will also continue in Lorain City Schools buildings.

“We have been delivering virtual services along with our classroom services all year,” Head Start Director Shauna Matelski, Ed.D. said. “The new virtual learning platform we implemented this fall is working well for our families.”

Hopkins-Locke and Griswold families were notified Thursday, Nov. 12 and have received information on how to participate in virtual classes. Head Start staff have been working with all families on Internet and other accessibility issues.

“We are monitoring the situation throughout Lorain County carefully,” Matelski added. “The plan right now is to reopen the two affected centers in January.”
