Employee Donates to Bike Inventory

posted 10/29/20 -- LCCAA Human Resources Assistant Janet Skinner wanted to embrace the mission of her new employer when she joined the agency a year ago. Now, she is a regular source of inventory for the LCCAA Bike Shop.

“Since I started with the company I wanted to do my part in the joy of giving to others,” Janet said. “At Christmas I donated toys for the children. Then I learned about the Bike Shop so it only seemed right that I could help find some bikes.”

Janet’s first bike came from a friend whose daughter had outgrown it. Two more came from a family moving out of state.

“Then I liked how good it made me feel to be giving to those who may not be as fortunate as my family is,” she said. “I started looking on Facebook and buying them. I would tell people where I worked and what I was doing with the bikes and a few would donate or mark the price down.”

Now, Janet regularly posts on Facebook looking for bikes or bike parts she can bring in to work. To date, she has donated eight bikes and is hoping to reach 12 by the end of 2020.

The LCCAA Bike Shop is one source of work experience for participants in LCCAA’s Youth Services Program. The youth workers clean and repair bikes and sell them at affordable prices while learning valuable skills. If you have a bike to donate, contact Bobby Taylor at [email protected].
