Long-Time Teacher Promoted

posted 8/31/20 -- Long-time Head Start Teacher Julie Charles has been promoted to the position of Education and Disabilities Manager at LCCAA’s main office in downtown Lorain.

Charles will be responsible for making sure Head Start standards are followed for students on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). She will also coordinate referrals for Head Start students to services such as speech therapy and mental health.

“Julie’s experience in working with so many children over the years makes her a great fit for this position,” said Education and Disabilities Specialist Jennifer Bartlebaugh. “She builds wonderful positive relationships with both her teaching colleagues and parents.”

Charles is enthusiastic about her new role.

“For me, this is another way to serve our Head Start families,” she said. “It’s so important to catch any concerns as early as possible and that can be scary for parents. I hope I can provide some reassuring guidance after so many years working with kids.”

Charles has been teaching Head Start at LCCAA’s partnership with Lorain City Schools for the last five years but has been with LCCAA Head Start for 23 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from Walden University and an associate’s degree in elementary education. She is one class away from completing a second associate’s degree in early childhood.

She was also one of three teachers agency wide selected for the Teacher Leader Project Mentoring Program.
