Head Start to Remain Closed Through May 1

posted 3/31/20 -- In response to Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement that Ohio’s K-12 schools would remain closed through May 1, LCCAA announced that its Head Start and Early Head Start programs would follow the same timeline.

“We know this has been difficult for our families and for our staff,” said LCCAA President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “The restrictions that have been put in place by the Ohio Department of Health are intended to protect us all from the spreading of COVID-19.”

Head Start staff are working remotely when feasible and are being paid, Boehnlein added. Nearly 1,000 packets of learning materials were mailed to families and many families were able to pick up diapers and other supplies.

“We will continue to support our Head Start families and engage with them,” Boehnlein said. “Our staff have stepped up and done an amazing job making videos and sharing stories and experiments via Facebook Groups. They truly love their students.”

Resources for both learning and crisis support – such as food distributions – have been added to the agency’s website at www.lccaa.net.

LCCAA remains open with most staff working remotely. The HEAP Winter Crisis Program has been extended to May 1 with all appointments being conducted by phone. Residents should call 1-855-806-9620 for an appointment. Tech Connect and Getting Ahead classes have been suspended and no new applications are being taken for Community Connections. LCCAA’s Bike Shop is open by appointment only by contacting Bobby Taylor at [email protected]. The Care Cupboard scheduled for April 18 has been cancelled.

Residents are urged to watch the agency’s website and Facebook page for further updates.
