Tech Connect Grads Ready for Doors to Open

posted 3/28/19 -- Graduates of LCCAA’s latest Tech Connect class look forward to new doors opening thanks to their new skills.

“I’m not good with computers,” said Danielle Moore of Lorain. “We live in a computer-based world.”

Tech Connect is a free, eight-session class that teaches participants Microsoft Office basics as well as how to search and apply for jobs online. If needed, students start at the very beginning with keyboard and mouse skills.

Carl Deeter, also of Lorain, said he was surprised to learn that everything involving a job search is now done electronically. Deeter worked for a printer for 10 years until just before Christmas.

“I want to brush up on a few things,” he said, adding that the workshops provide a “wealth of everything” and the staff is “helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.”

Upon completion of the course, participants who qualify receive a free, refurbished computer. The latest class was held at Ohio Means Jobs Lorain County in Elyria. Classes are taught by Arun Singh of 360 Computers, who also provides the refurbished machines and will even help troubleshoot for his students after the class.

Moore worked for two decades as a licensed practical nurse but is now looking for something that “lights my fire” such as building her own business.

“This class is increasing my computer literacy, opening doors for me and providing resources,” she said.
