CSBG Up for Reauthorization

posted 3/20/19 -- LCCAA's President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein spent last week in Washington D.C. attending the National Community Action Foundation's annual conference.

Congressman Glenn "GT" Thompson (R-PA) addressed her and other Community Action leaders regarding his support of the Community Service Block Grant and Community Action. He called attention to how CSBG addresses all aspects of poverty and called the outcomes the program achieves "transformative."

His support extends to co-sponsoring reauthorization of CSBG with a trio of Congresswomen: Marcia Fudge (D-Toledo), Betty McCollum (D-MN) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as announced on March 14.

"Their bi-partisan support for the Community Service Block Grant is heartening in so many ways," Boehnlein said. "We work hard to get our elected officials to know how much good comes from CSBG in the hands of Community Action."

CSBG funded programs offered at LCCAA include By Car, Tech Connect, Youth Services, Food Pantry Grants, Operation Warm, Getting Ahead and more.

"Congressman Thompson gave example after example of how CSBG is responsive to local need and truly helps people," Boehnlein said. "His support and the support of every congressional leader signing onto the reauthorization is pivotal to communities like ours. CSBG funding touches most all our programs and services. It absolutely does transform lives in Lorain County."
