Ohio Secretary of State Visits Head Start

posted 3/17/19 -- LCCAA Head Start students met a special visitor last week and learned about one of their future duties as citizens.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose read the Dr. Seuss-inspired "One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote" to children at Hopkins-Locke Head Start in Lorain.

"The kids loved him," said LCCAA President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein, who noted that Secretary LaRose has young children. "They were so engaged. One of the kids said 'I like to vote!' and he said 'Voting is great.'"

In his conversations with the kids, literally on their level, the Secretary pointed out that they could set up a vote on just about anything. As Secretary of State, LaRose is Ohio's chief elections officer. His day in the area also included a stop at the Lorain County Board of Elections.

Secretary LaRose was among the speakers at the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies' Winter Legislative Conference in January. At that time, according to Boehnlein, LaRose received an open invitation to visit Head Start centers anytime.
