Rent Assistance Program Ends

posted 7/12/22 -- Lorain County Community Action Agency has ended its rent assistance program, effective July 11.

“Since November 2020, emergency rental assistance has helped thousands of Lorain County residents maintain their homes,” said President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “We are glad we were a part of this response to the COVID-19 crisis.”

Boehnlein said the program was originally expected to continue taking applications through September 30. On Monday, LCCAA was notified by the Ohio Department of Development that the state was “voluntarily relinquishing” funds back to the federal treasury, resulting in adjustments to the budgets of state grantees such as LCCAA.

No new applications are being accepted at LCCAA or its partners El Centro and Lorain County Urban League. Applications submitted to LCCAA or its partners will be processed by Lorain County Job and Family Services.

“There is still rental assistance available in Lorain County through Job and Family Services (JFS),” Boehnlein said. “Applicants will not have to reapply and should not lose their place in the processing queue. Pending LCCAA applications in the web-based system we share with JFS are being transferred to JFS now.”
