Griswold's Rosa Earns Degree

posted 6/4/22 -- Alicia Rosa earned a new position in LCCAA Head Start when she completed her associate’s degree last month.

The Griswold Early Childhood Services Worker will be an Assistant Teacher this fall after completing her degree through the University of Cincinnati. Alicia earned her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential through UC during the pandemic, which was a challenge.

“These classes were a little more challenging,” she said. “There were things that were more challenging but also more rewarding. You have to hold yourself accountable for getting everything turned in on time and that was the most challenging thing.”

Alicia plans to continue to take classes at UC toward her bachelor’s degree. She said having mentors, specifically Pamela Caruso and Christina Villar, and plenty of support helped her. She advises others considering coursework to believe in themselves.

“This was one of the hardest things I could do, I had two jobs, school and kids, but I pushed myself through it,” she said. “When going through this, having people there to help you when you need it makes it a lot better. Just remember to take a deep breath and tell yourself that you’ve got this. Take baby steps and eventually you will get there.”
