Temp Employee Becomes Asst. Coordinator

posted 5/28/21 -- Phoebe Kirk loves serving her community and found a new way to help people at LCCAA as the new Assistant Coordinator in Energy Services.

The Lorain native came to work at LCCAA last fall when the Home Relief Grant offered help to renters and water customers who were suffering financial hardships due to COVID-19. Phoebe came aboard as part of the temporary workforce hired to process those applications.

“I have always wanted to work for LCCAA permanently ever since I started,” she said. “I love helping people and serving my community.”

With a background as a nursing assistant, Phoebe also branched out into business and human resources earning two associates degrees and taking several classes toward her bachelor's. She previously worked at the Boys and Girls Club. She joined the temporary workforce at LCCAA six months ago.

“I am looking forward to being part of a great team,” she said, adding that working with Energy Services Coordinator Darnella Higginbotham, who also oversaw the HRG program, has been inspiring. “I know I will achieve a higher level of serving under Darnella’s guidance and leadership.”

Darnella said she chose Phoebe for the position because of her integrity and willingness to go many extra miles for the HRG customers.

"Phoebe has always demonstrated passion and compassion to our Lorain County residents in need," Darnella said. "Her smile is as bright as her personality and her positivity can fill an entire space. This is the kind of energy you would want to have in your presence and the presence of others."

A mother of four with a brand new Lorain High School graduate and a Bowling Green Falcon in the family, Phoebe also serves in leadership at Divine Destiny Christian Fellowship. Now, working at LCCAA office at 936 Broadway Ave. full-time, she’s steps away from her husband, Mario, who owns and operates the newly renovated Red Carpet Hair Cuttin Salon at 914 Broadway Ave.
