Window Service Offered for Winter Crisis

posted 3/14/21 -- Starting Monday, customers seeking Winter Crisis help can enter LCCAA’s lobby in downtown Lorain to get help if they have all their documentation ready.

Beginning Monday, March 15, LCCAA will allow five customers at a time into its lobby at 936 Broadway Ave. between 8 and 10 a.m. and between 1 and 3 p.m. Five people will be admitted and after they are all finished, another five will be admitted.

Masks are required and customers must remain six feet apart. Customers are asked not to bring children or more than one household member in order to maintain social distancing.

To qualify for Winter Crisis, customers must be without heat or have a disconnect notice from their heat provider. Only customers with all required documents copied and ready to submit should come to the LCCAA office. A staff member wearing gloves will examine the copies and advise the client.

“Only those with complete documents will be processed,” said Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator Joel Taylor. “If clients are missing anything they can come back at one of the designated times or put their copied documents in the drop box.”

Required documents are:

  1. A copy of the head of household’s photo ID
  2. Copies of Social Security cards for all household members.
  3. A copy of your electric and (if applicable) gas bills with your current name and address.
  4. Copies of proof of income for the last 30 days for every household member over 18 such as paystubs, unemployment history, etc.

Customers will not see a representative, but will receive a phone call regarding the status of their application and any further instructions.

Taylor said the goal is to process as many eligible residents as possible as the Winter Crisis program comes to an end. The window service is expected to continue through March 31, the last day of the program.
