Bike Shop Visit Potentially Life Saving

posted 2/11/20 -- Many visitors to the LCCAA Bike Shop, operated by our youth program, rely on their bicycles as their only transportation.

Doug Vinson visited the shop on a recent Saturday and recounted just how dangerous that reliance can be.

"Mr. Vinson told us he had been hit by a car twice while riding his bicycle," said Youth Services Coordinator Bobby Taylor. "He was so afraid of being hit again, he started riding against traffic, which earned him a citation and a trip to court."

Taylor provided Vinson with a free reflective vest, donated by Lorain County Public Health. Vinson called it a "life saver."

"I never really thought about the impact of the bike shop until that moment," Taylor said. "It was one of the most rewarding days that I experienced."

The youth-operated bike shop is open at 204 W. 10th St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
