Bike Shop Receives Grant

posted 12/3/18 -- LCCAA’s Youth Services Program has received a $5,000 grant toward its upcoming Bike Shop.

The Bike Shop will open in May in a building on West 10th Street, directly behind the LCCAA Headquarters at 936 Broadway in Lorain. The shop will be operated by participants in the Youth Services Program to provide them with work experience as well as opportunities to serve the community.

The grant, from the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation's Ohio Chapter will help purchase tools and equipment for the shop. The shop will repair and sell used bicycles of all kinds. The youths are learning needed skills by working alongside Ed Stewart at the Elyria Bicycle Shop.

A community campaign to outfit the shop is also underway.

“This is for our community and the young people here who want to serve it,” said LCCAA CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “We want to encourage the community to be a part of it by donating directly to the shop.”

Boehnlein added that donations of used bicycles will be accepted closer to the opening of the shop.
