Utility Help Available for Home Bound Residents

posted 11/25/18 -- Home bound residents of Lorain County can receive help keeping their heat on this winter with a home visit thanks to LCCAA’s partnership with the Lorain County Office on Aging.

To be eligible for help, residents must live at or below 175% of the federal poverty line. LCCAA serves clients with both appointments and walk in slots at three locations, however, some residents just can’t get there.

Traveling social worker Stacy Pennell processes crisis or PIPP applications while visiting them in their homes.

"These are people who are in their medical bed in their living room," Pennell said. "They almost feel like they've won the lottery. They are so grateful."

Previously, Pennell has collected affidavits from home bound residents and been able to keep utility assistance appointments for them. Processing them during her visits is much faster and more convenient for all.

"This collaboration is such a blessing for our clients," said Community Service Specialist Cindy Hicks. "These barriers are real and we are doing everything we can to break through them and help people."

All clients seen by Pennell are referred by LCCAA. If you or someone you know cannot get to the office to receive help, call 440-245-1870.

Winter Crisis help is available through March 31 and appointments in an office can be made by calling 1-855-806-9620. Additionally, many hours are available for walk-ins. Click here for a complete list of hours and locations.
