Head Start Students Try Chickpeas

posted 10/22/18 -- Head Start students and their families had a chance to try chickpeas last week as our Health and Nutrition department continues its Try Day series for a new school year.

Chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) have many health benefits, are widely available dried or canned, are inexpensive and an authorized food on the WIC program, said Health and Nutrition Manager Becky Rodriguez. ]

This week, all classrooms will receive crispy roasted cinnamon maple chickpeas to sample as well as some dried chickpeas to use for classroom exploration.

Sampling for parents and students took place during drop off at Hopkins-Locke on Oct. 16 and at Griswold on Oct. 19.
