Home Based Head Start Has Openings

posted 10/12/18 -- LCCAA’s Head Start program has expanded its home-based option this year adding a sixth home visitor for children aged 0 to 5.

Home visitors go to the student once a week for a 90-minute session designed to empower parents as their child’s first teachers.

“They really want parents to develop that relationship,” said Judie Emerine, Home-Based Administrator. “They’re more focused on what the child is doing, why their doing it and what the child is getting from it.”

Families choose Home-Based Head Start for a variety of reasons, Emerine said. They may lack transportation or their child may not yet be toilet-trained. Some families just prefer to keep their youngsters close. Many families go on to enroll in a center-based program at a later time.

The Growing Great Kids curriculum also helps parents address other issues providing parenting and other information. Home-Based families also gather twice a month for a socialization activity which also gives parents an opportunity to meet each other. LCCAA provides transportation if needed.

Home-based families are offered all the same services any Head Start family has access to, Emerine added.

There are slots available in LCCAA’s Home Based Head Start program. Call Emerine at 440-288-2017 or go to lccaa.net to fill out the online application.
