LCCAA Seeks Food Pantry Partners

posted 10/5/18 -- Local food pantries will again get a boost from LCCAA’s partnership grants for the holiday season.

New food pantry partners are invited to submit proposals for the reimbursement grants now in their sixth year. Funding is for the sole purpose of purchasing food and grocery items (both edible and inedible) for distribution between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31.

“We started this program in response to cuts made to food stamps several years ago,” said Frank Prihoda, Director of Planning and Community Services. “Those cuts have not been reinstated, people are still hungry and food stamp funding remains under threat.”

To be eligible, organizations must be located in Lorain County and provide free food directly to any person in their service area living at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Line. The organization must also conduct monthly reporting on the clients they serve.

“These awards are intended to help with the food pantries’ busiest time,” Prihoda added. “Dependence on local food pantries has become a way of life for too many people. Everything we can do to stretch each dollar is important.”

Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 17 and should consist of a letter on organizational letterhead including:

  • Number of years the pantry has been in service
  • Geographic area served by the pantry
  • Number of people assisted in the last 12 months
  • Number of staff
  • Number of volunteers Contact information

Send completed proposals to:

Awards will be announced on Oct. 22. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding will be required and reimbursement will depend on detailed reporting data. Questions should be directed to Prihoda at 440-204-3153.
