LCCAA Supports Elyria Reach and Rise

posted 8/2/18 -- Lorain County Community Action Agency has donated $5,000 to the City of Elyria Parks and Recreation Department as a Summer 2018 Community Reinvestment Sponsor.

Mayor Holly Brinda reached out to President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein to help support the Reach and Rise Discovery Camps which target at-risk children and youths. Corporate relocations out of Elyria in recent years have impacted the community's tax base and available programming revenue.

"They are truly committed to serving as many children as possible," Boehnlein said. "Reach & Rise is a great program that aligns with our mission to serve and empower Lorain County residents. It's a natural partnership."

Last year, the Reach & Rise Discovery Camps served more than 600 children and youth in June through August. Camps focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities, keeping children engaged to prevent summer slide. The camps also promote healthy living through physical activity and nutrition education, as well as responsibility and character development.

Camps are available for boys and girls ages 6 to 17. Learn more at www.cityofelyria.org.
