CAA Legend Visits Agency

posted 7/27/18 -- LCCAA welcomed a local legend to its offices recently. Mrs. Dorothy Locke stopped by to tour the building at 936 Broadway Ave. where the agency relocated last fall.

Mrs. Locke, the wife of the late William Locke, former President and CEO of LCCAA, has a long history with Community Action.

"Mrs. Locke's visit was a true pleasure. She is an amazing lady," said current President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein. "Her roots in Community Action are solid and deep."

Mrs. Locke was among the earliest employees of the Community Action network in Ohio. She worked in Portage County extending water service to poor neighborhoods and spoke up against racism and stereotypes about poverty. Her work was highlighted two years ago as part of LCCAA's 50th Anniversary celebration.

"She expressed how wonderful it was that our new building creates an environment of respect and welcome," Boehnlein said. "The HEAP reception area with the windows and other amenities truly had her smiling. She commented that Mr. Locke would have been so proud."
