Another Central Plaza Staffer Earns CDA

posted 6/6/24 -- Mother of three MaDonna Horrocks joined LCCAA Head Start’s staff to “keep the child like spark alive.”

Horrocks is one of more than two dozen staff members who have earned their Child Development Associate credential this past school year. The CDA is considered the foundational credential for careers in early childhood education and involves extensive coursework and a classroom observation.

“What brought me to Head Start was a good friend who assured me that I would be great with the kids,” Horrocks said. “I’m creative, nurturing and quite patient. My kids are older and don’t need me as much.”

Horrocks started last year working part time at Hopkins Locke and moved this year to the Central Plaza classroom as a full-time Early Childhood Service Worker.

“Going through this process I was able to gain the tools and knowledge to be successful,” she said. “They say when you know better, you do better. The portfolio really made me reflect and gain insight on how to do things and what is best for the children.”

Horrocks returned to the Lorain County area with her three children to help her aging parents. Her youngest daughter will be a high school senior this fall. She enjoys music, Netflix and visiting area parks.
