Yamilette Vazquez works to create more Head Start success stories because she knows what the program can do for families.
Miss Yami is the latest Head Start staff member to earn her Child Development Associate credential. She first became involved as a parent in the 2022-2023 school year and has now worked as a Family Service Assistant at Hopkins Locke for two years.
“I have been enjoying this journey and I look forward to continuing to work with children and their families,” she said. “I feel this is a big commitment in my life.”
Miss Yami is a Puerto Rican wife and mother of two who loves “collecting great memories” with her family.
The CDA is considered the foundational credential in the early childhood education profession. In addition to coursework, candidates must complete a portfolio, an exam and a classroom observation. Nearly 30 LCCAA employees have earned the credential in 2024.
