Heating Assistance Program Underway

posted 11/2/15 -- The HEAP Winter Crisis Program begins Nov. 2. The program will provide assistance to eligible households that are threatened with utility disconnection, have been disconnected or have less than a 10-day supply of bulk fuel.

“We are working to ensure that Lorain County residents keep their heat on and stay warm this winter,” said Jackie Boehnlein, LCCAA President and CEO.

To be eligible for heating utility assistance, residents must live at or below 175% of the federal poverty line. Residents who have a utility in threat of disconnection or have already been turned off may call the HEAP hotline at 1-855-806-9620 to make an appointment.

The automated line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to schedule appointments. There is an option to speak to a representative during regular office hours. The hotline also includes a recorded message describing the documents needed for your appointment.

The office hours in Lorain are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Office hours at the Wellington office are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Appointments are strongly encouraged but walk-in hours are available at both sites.

The morning walk-in hours in Lorain are 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, and Tuesdays through Fridays until 4:00 p.m.

The Wellington office offers walk-ins during the morning hours from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 am. The program will run through March 31, 2016.
