Summer Cooling Help Ends August 31posted 8/22/14 -- Lorain County residents can still receive help keeping their electricity on and cool air flowing during the summer months. Appointments are available in both downtown Lorain and in Wellington at 115 Willard Memorial Square.
The program primarily focuses on income-eligible Ohioans age 60 and over or people with certified medical conditions. New this year are benefits for customers of non-regulated utilities, such as municipal utilities and electric cooperatives.
Customers can receive an air conditioner as well as bill-paying assistance. In addition to being income-eligible, they must meet one of the following criteria:
* Have a documented medical condition.
* Be age 60 or over.
* Have a disconnect notice from a utility.
Since the program began July 1, LCCAA has distributed 232 air conditioners and assisted with 229 utility payments. Additionally, 788 clients have enrolled or reenrolled in the PIPP Plus program, said Cindy Hicks, HEAP Supervisor.
Documentation of income, household members, ages and medical conditions must be shown at appointments with utility assistance staff. Call LCCAA's 24-hour hotline at1-855-806-9620 to hear a list of required documents and make an appointment.
The Summer Crisis Program ends August 29.
