Lorain County Community Action Agency (LCCAA) announced today that it has carved out a portion of its’ remaining stimulus funding for a 2010 summer youth program. The program will serve 75 grade schoolers aged 6-12. The offering is a collaborative effort of LCCAA, Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County and Common Ground. Working together the organizations have taken fee-based summer programming and made it transportation-accessible and fee-waived for families throughout the county that qualify based on household income. Eligibility will be determined by participation in family support services such as, but not limited to, free-and-reduced lunches, food stamps and the Home Energy Assistance Program.

The program lasts eight weeks, including one week at Common Ground’s Earth Camp. The weeks not spent “day-camping” at Common Ground in Oberlin will be spent at one of five Boys and Girls Clubs: Elyria Community Center, Oberlin Center, St. Stan’s Center, Westview Terrace, and Southside Gardens. Transportation from the participating Boys and Girls Clubs to Earth Camp is provided as part of the program.

Registration week for the program is June 7-10 with applications being taken on a first-come, first-serve basis between the hours of 9:00AM and 4:00PM at the following Boys and Girls Clubs’ locations:

· Elyria Community Center, 1821 Middle Avenue, Elyria
· Oberlin Center, 218 North Pleasant, Oberlin
· St. Stan’s Center, 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain

“We are pleased to be working with these two partnering organizations on behalf of children,” states William T. Locke, LCCAA Executive Director. “This will give the families we serve a chance at quality summer youth programming that is sure to be safe, educational and fun,” he adds.
