Food Pantry 2015 Holiday Partners Announcedposted 10/21/15 -- Lorain County Community Action named its 2015 food pantry partners earlier this week.
For the third consecutive year, LCCAA will provide funding to area food pantries to assist with increased demand in the months of November and December.
Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis and is for the sole purpose of purchasing food and grocery items (edible and inedible). To be eligible, pantries must be located in Lorain County, distribute food to clients living at or below 125% of the federal poverty line, and conduct monthly reporting of clients served.
Grants are approximately $800 per partner. For a complete list, click on the attachment below.
The food pantry partnerships began in 2013 in response to cuts in the United States Department of Agriculture's food stamp program (also known as SNAP). The cuts caused a spike in demand at food pantries just in time for the anticipated holiday rush. The USDA reports that 80 percent of SNAP recipients exhaust their monthly benefit in only two weeks.
