Programs

The Lorain County Community Action Agency aims to reduce the incidence and impact of poverty by strengthening and empowering individuals, families, and communities.

 

Community Learning & Technology Center (CLTC)
Formerly the LCCAA Family Learning Center, the CLTC now serves as a one-stop training facility for the Agency while serving as a community resource learning center. The CLTC serves family, children, and adults of all ages through collaborative partnerships that provide support services and opportunities to the community in a welcoming center equipped with today’s technology such as Wi-Fi, a projection system, and classroom computers.

Community Service Block Grant (CSBG)
This important grant enables LCCAA to support the local Workforce initiative in comprehensive employment training, youth services with Direct Action for Central Lorain, cribs for newborns through Resource Mothers of CHP and Lorain County Furniture Bank, Earned Income Tax Credit Program (VITA), the Healthy Father Project, and a variety of other projects. 

Early Head Start
Early Head Start is a comprehensive program for income eligible pregnant mothers and/or infants and toddlers through age three. Center Based and Home Based options are available.

Emergency Food Pantry
Emergency Food Pantry is a hunger center site that provides several days worth of non-perishable food items to families in temporary emergency situations. Effective October 1st LCCAA will only distribute food through countywide pantry partners.

Emergency Home Repair
This program collaborates with the city building departments to help identified individuals make necessary repairs to their properties that they might not otherwise afford.

Head Start Preschool Program
Head Start is the best known and most successful national poverty program. It was originally implemented to help break the cycle of poverty and promote school readiness, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.

Home Based Preschool
Home visits and support are provided to families with income eligible children from ages 3-5, who may not be ready to participate in a classroom program. It is also a wonderful support for rural families.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
HEAP was created to provide a one-time utility payment to eligible households with disconnection or threat of disconnection to their home energy source. Winter and summer HEAP programs provide financial assistance to eligible individuals who connection to heating, air conditioning are threatened.

Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP)
HWAP is designed to help low income residents save fuel and money, while increasing the comfort of their homes. Although most dwellings waste energy, different types of houses and apartments have different energy problems, and we assess every situation for your unique weatherization needs.

Senior Services
Our newly established department provides support for the senior community by offering assistance in areas such as transportation, meals, long-term care, or prescriptions.

South Branch, Elyria Public Library System
This community based library is located within the Hamilton Head Start Center in Elyria. It provides many wonderful literacy and technology opportunities for children and families.
